How did you start gardening?

Gardening has always been a part of my life, even from a young age. I used to grow flowers and small plants as part of school projects. However, my passion for gardening truly blossomed in 2021 when I was living in Mumbai, away from home. I kept a few cacti in my room, which my sister gave me as a going-away gift. Slowly, I added more plants—vines and snake plants—around my balcony and work space. Eventually, I decided to leave my corporate job and start a small microgreens business in Vadodara (@ecoleafmicrogreens). That’s when I realised how deeply I had fallen in love with plants.
What are some of your favourite plants to grow in the garden?

I absolutely love growing vegetables like spinach, radish, beets, and Pak Choi. I purchased the seeds from All That Grows, and I was amazed at how much bigger and more vibrant my spinach and Pak Choi were compared to the ones you find at the store.
What are some of the plants that you’ve not had as much success with?

I’ve tried growing garlic, but it hasn’t worked out as expected. I think I was trying to grow it in a container, so I’ll keep experimenting and hopefully have better luck next time.
Are there any new plants on your wishlist?

This year, I’m really excited to try growing edamame since I love eating them! I also have a soft spot for chives and saffron, both of which have culinary significance and are plants I’d love to grow one day.
What would you like to say to new gardeners?

Don’t be discouraged if your plant doesn’t thrive right away. It’s all part of the learning process. Growing a plant from a seed brings so much joy, and there’s nothing like the feeling of pride when that plant starts to bear fruit. Trust me, the taste is so much better than anything you’ll find at the store.
Any gardening hacks you want to share with us?

One hack I swear by is using citrus bio enzyme as a natural pest repellent solution. It works wonders! I also highly recommend companion planting—try pairing tomatoes with basil and growing marigolds in your garden. Marigolds do an excellent job of keeping pests at bay.
Any particular Instagram accounts you follow for inspiration?

I follow @onthegrow and @huwsgarden for gardening inspiration. Also, I’d recommend checking out Huw Richards’ book, The Vegetable Grower's Handbook. It’s a fantastic resource!
