Growing guide for Sunflower Russian Giant Seeds

Planting instructions

Sow seeds directly into well-prepared soil at a depth of 2–3 cm. Maintain a spacing of 45–60 cm between plants to allow enough room for full growth and airflow.

Growing Requirements

Pests

Generally low-maintenance, but young seedlings may be susceptible to aphids, slugs, and cutworms. Watch for fungal spots on leaves in overly humid conditions.

soil

Prefers well-draining, loamy soil enriched with compost. Slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.5) is ideal.

spot

Choose a sunny, open spot that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Avoid shaded or waterlogged areas.

temperature

Best grown in temperatures ranging between 18°C and 30°C. Seeds germinate well in soil temperatures above 15°C.

watering

Water regularly but avoid overwatering. Soil should remain moist during germination and early growth, but established plants are fairly drought-tolerant.

how to harvest

Cut the flowers early in the morning when the petals just begin to open. Use sharp garden scissors and leave a long stem for arranging. They make bold centrepieces in vases and pair well with tall grasses, zinnias, or cosmos in floral displays.
