Have a Question?

Tulip Queen of the Night Bulbs are renowned for their dramatic, velvety deep purple blooms that often appear almost black in certain lights. These striking flowers rise gracefully above broad, lance-shaped green leaves, creating a bold contrast in the garden. Each bloom is cup-shaped and reaches around 6–7 cm across, making them a standout addition to spring beds, borders, or containers. Their rich, dark colour pairs beautifully with lighter tulips or spring bulbs for elegant displays. Highly valued as cut flowers, Tulip Queen of the Night also brings sophistication to indoor arrangements with their long-lasting blooms.

Growing guide for Tulip Queen of the Night Bulbs

Planting instructions

Plant bulbs 12–15 cm deep with the pointed end facing upwards, spaced 10–12 cm apart in well-draining soil.

Growing Requirements

Pests

Can occasionally be affected by aphids, slugs, or tulip fire fungus. Regular checks and good air circulation help maintain healthy plants.

soil

Thrives in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or organic matter. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soil.

spot

Choose a sunny to partially shaded spot where the tulips can receive at least 5–6 hours of direct light.

temperature

Tulips need a cold winter spell to bloom well, thriving in temperatures between 10°C–18°C during growth.

watering

Water well after planting and keep soil evenly moist during growth. If using as cut flowers, change vase water every 2 days to keep blooms fresh.

how to harvest

Harvest flowers when buds are just starting to open for longer vase life. Pair with lighter tulips, daffodils, or spring branches for contrast. Keep stems in fresh, clean water, refresh every 2–3 days, and avoid placing them near ripening fruit to prevent early wilting.
