Growing guide for Achimenes Red Bulbs

Planting instructions

For optimal growth, prepare a well-draining soil mix rich in organic matter. Plant the Achimenes Blue Flower Bulbs approximately 3-4 inches deep in the ground or in containers. In containers, choose a pot with a diameter of at least 8-10 inches to provide ample space for root development. Plant bulbs with the pointed ends facing upward.

Growing Requirements

Pests

Achimenes plants are generally hardy, but keep an eye out for common garden pests like aphids and spider mites. Apply a mild insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases, and avoid overwatering.

soil

These bulbs thrive in well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil. Incorporate compost to enhance fertility and ensure good moisture retention. Aim for a pH level between 6.0 and 7.0 for optimal growth.

spot

Choose a location with filtered sunlight or partial shade for Achimenes. They excel in sheltered spots that receive morning sunlight but are protected from harsh afternoon rays. A perfect addition to gardens, patios, or balconies.

temperature

Achimenes prefer warm temperatures between 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). Protect them from frost, as they are sensitive to cold. Consider planting them in containers so you can move them indoors during cooler seasons.

watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water Achimenes when the top inch of soil feels dry. In containers, ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

how to harvest

Achimenes flowers make exquisite additions to floral arrangements. Harvest blooms when they are fully open, and use a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears to cut stems. Remove any excess foliage and place the cut flowers in fresh water immediately to prolong their beauty.

Not very nice experience

The achimenes bulbs received were not in good condition. They appeared old, smelly and diseased.. still I tried to put it to use. But after only 4-5 days white mouldy growth appeared all over these bulbs...and they decayed out. Very bad experience. 700 rupees worth nothing.
