Have a Question?

Gladiolus Zamora is a striking flowering variety that adds height, texture and beautiful colour to home gardens. It produces tall, upright flower spikes covered in large, heavily ruffled blooms in a lovely combination of mauve or lavender-pink, creamy white and rich magenta or berry-pink markings. The flowers have broad, wavy petals, with contrasting colours that create a distinctive three-coloured effect. Its long, sword-shaped green leaves grow upright around sturdy stems, giving the plant an elegant appearance. Gladiolus Zamora is well suited to sunny garden beds, borders and large containers, and its tall flower spikes make excellent cut flowers for indoor arrangements. Plant the corms in fertile, well-draining soil in a sunny location and water regularly while the plants grow and flower.

Growing guide for Gladiolus Zamora Bulbs

Planting instructions

Prepare the soil by loosening it to a depth of about 25–30 cm and mixing in well-rotted compost. Plant the bulbs, also called corms, pointed side up, about 10–15 cm deep in the ground and 10–15 cm apart. For containers, use a pot at least 35–40 cm deep and 30–35 cm wide, with drainage holes.

Growing Requirements

Pests

Gladiolus may be affected by thrips, aphids, slugs and snails. Avoid overwatering and poor drainage to prevent bulb rot and fungal diseases, and remove affected leaves promptly.

soil

Gladiolus grows best in fertile, loose, well-drained sandy loam soil rich in organic matter. A slightly acidic to neutral soil with a pH of around 5.5–7.0 is suitable for healthy growth.

spot

Choose a sunny, sheltered spot that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. A flower bed, garden border or spacious sunny patio is ideal, as the tall flower spikes may need support against strong winds.

temperature

A temperature range of around 15–25°C is suitable for healthy growth and flowering. Protect the bulbs from frost and avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat, especially when the plants are young.

watering

Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil evenly moist during active growth. Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry, avoiding waterlogging, which can cause the bulbs to rot.

how to harvest

Cut the flower spike when the first one or two flowers at the bottom begin to open, preferably during the cooler hours of the day. Use clean, sharp scissors and place the stems in fresh water immediately to help keep the flowers looking fresh for longer.
