The ornamental chilly or pepper is one of those exceptional plants that can cross over the boundaries between a flower and a vegetable garden. A rainbow of colours on an ornamental chilli plant makes for a great cover plant for raised beds, patios and containers. A perennial that thrives in full sun, ornamental chilly is native to South America. Although ornamental chilly are edible, they are usually grown for their cheerful colours instead of their flavours since they can be too spicy to eat. Ornamental chilli plants require full sun to produce colourful fruits. In case you are planning to grow them indoor, supplementary artificial lights would be required.

Planting instructions
Once the soil temperature is above 25-28 °C, you can plant the ornamental chilly seeds about half an inch deep in the soil.
Seeds will start to germinate in one or two weeks. The plants have small and shallow roots which makes them a good choice for containers.

Pests
Common pepper plant diseases like damping off, leaf spotting, wilting, powdery mildew, blossom end rot, can pose a problem. Manage the watering schedule well to avoid most of these fungus borne diseases.

Ornamental chilly plants like loose, fertile soil that drains well. Heavy compact soils will result in stunted root growth and result in root diseases. Soil pH can be maintained between the range of 5.8 to 6.3 for optimum growth.

Choose a sunny spot for the ornamental chilly plant that receives 3 to 5 hours of sunlight every day.

Ideal germination temperature for the ornamental chilly plant should range between 25-28℃

Ornamental chilly plants have little to medium drought tolerance. Hence the soil must be watered lightly as and when it feels dry.
how to harvest
The plant should start flowering within 35-40 days of planting and the colourful fruits should appear within 70 to 80 days. Pinch the end of each stem to promote a bushier plant.
