Pepper Yellow Bull’s Horn is a stunning Italian sweet pepper variety known for its elongated, horn-shaped fruits that grow up to 20–25 cm long. The fruits ripen from green to a bright golden yellow and have a glossy, smooth skin with thick, juicy flesh. The flavour is mild, sweet, and aromatic - perfect for grilling, roasting, or stuffing in Mediterranean and Italian dishes. Originating from Italy, this heirloom pepper is prized by gardeners for its high yield and striking colour that brightens up both garden beds and kitchen plates.
Planting instructions
Pepper Yellow Bull’s Horn can be easily grown in containers or garden beds. Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in well-draining soil. Maintain a spacing of 45–60 cm between plants to ensure proper air circulation and growth. Transplant seedlings when they have at least 5–6 true leaves.
Growing Requirements
pests & diseases
Watch out for common pests such as aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites. Regularly check the undersides of leaves and use neem oil spray or organic insecticidal soap if needed. Prevent fungal issues by avoiding overhead watering and ensuring proper air movement.
soil
Grow in rich, well-draining loamy soil mixed with compost or aged manure. Maintain a soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0 for optimal nutrient absorption and plant health.
spot
Choose a sunny spot that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Adequate sunlight helps in better fruiting and enhances the pepper’s natural sweetness.
temperature
Ideal growing temperature ranges between 20°C and 30°C. Protect the plants from temperatures below 15°C, as they may slow growth and fruit development.
watering
Water regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Deep watering once or twice a week is recommended, depending on the climate. Reduce watering slightly once fruits start ripening to enhance their flavour.
how to harvest
Harvest the peppers about 80–90 days after transplanting when they turn bright yellow and feel firm to the touch. Use freshly harvested peppers in stir-fries, salads, or stuff them with cheese and herbs for a delicious roasted treat. Their mild sweetness also makes them great for grilling or pickling.
