Sweet William flower is the perfect pot carnation plants and belongs to the Caryophyllaceae family. In addition to having edible blooms, Sweet William also offers evergreen foliage, fragrant even cut flowers. The flowers are coloured deep red bordering on becoming black with a mild clove or nutmeg scent. This variety of dianthus is a biennial. The remarkable sweet petals of Sweet William can be used in cake decorations, salads. The intense flavours of this edible flower make it a culinary favourite. Sweet william will grow well in sandy or clay soil and can go up to a height of 12 to 24 inches making it an absolute delight to spruce up a plain garden. The daily sun exposure should last for 4 to 5 hours for good growth. The plants of these flowers need to be pruned before starting the next blooming season.

Sweet william can be directly seeded in the garden or seeded indoors for transplanting later. Sow sweet william seeds about ⅛ inches deep in fairly rich and well-draining soil and water lightly.
Keep a distance of about 2-3 inches between each seed. Don’t let the soil dry out till germination. Germination will take about 2-3 weeks. After germination, thin the seedlings to 12 inches apart.
