Have a Question?

The Yellow of Paris Pumpkin is a classic French heirloom variety known for its large, round fruits with smooth, golden-yellow skin and thick, sweet flesh. Each pumpkin can weigh between 10–20 kilograms when fully grown, making it perfect for both kitchen gardens and small farms. Its fine-textured, slightly nutty flesh adds a delicate sweetness to soups, stews, curries, and baked treats. Originating in France, this variety has long been prized for its excellent storage quality and versatile use in both savoury and dessert recipes. The plant itself grows vigorously with broad, trailing vines and lush green foliage that thrives well in warm Indian climates.

Growing guide for Yellow of Paris Pumpkin Seeds

Planting instructions

Yellow of Paris Pumpkin can be grown directly in garden beds or in large containers of at least 50–60 cm diameter. Sow the seeds 2–3 cm deep with a plant-to-plant distance of 60–90 cm to allow ample room for vine spread.

Growing Requirements

pests & diseases

Watch out for common pests like aphids, fruit borers, and leaf miners. Powdery mildew and downy mildew can occur in humid conditions—apply neem oil or organic fungicides regularly as preventive care.

soil

Grow in loose, well-draining soil enriched with compost or aged manure. A slightly acidic to neutral pH between 6.0–7.5 is ideal for best fruit development.

spot

Select a sunny spot that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Pumpkins require warmth and full exposure for healthy vine and fruit growth.

temperature

The ideal temperature range for growing this variety is between 20°C to 30°C. Prolonged exposure below 15°C can slow growth and affect fruiting.

watering

Water deeply 2–3 times a week, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.

how to harvest

Harvest the pumpkins about 100–110 days after sowing when the skin turns deep golden-yellow and the rind hardens. Cut the fruit with a short stem attached for longer storage. The sweet, tender flesh can be used in soups, pies, curries, halwas, or roasted as a side dish.
