Pepper Hot Anaheim Seeds grow into vigorous plants producing long, glossy, tapered chillies that start off bright green and mature to a deep red. These peppers are mildly hot with a rich, smoky-sweet flavour that works beautifully in both fresh and cooked dishes. Originating from New Mexico, the Anaheim pepper is a versatile variety perfect for stuffing, roasting, grilling, or drying into flakes. The plants are high-yielding and thrive in warm climates, making them a reliable choice for home gardeners who enjoy adding a gentle heat to their meals.
Planting instructions
These peppers can be easily grown in containers or directly in garden beds. Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in well-drained soil and keep a spacing of 40–45 cm between plants. Transplant seedlings once they are 10–12 cm tall and strong enough to handle.
Growing Requirements
pests & diseases
Common pests include aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites, which can be managed using organic neem oil sprays. Watch out for fungal infections such as powdery mildew; avoid overwatering and ensure good air circulation around the plants.
soil
Use rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter. A slightly acidic to neutral pH between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal for healthy root growth and fruit production.
spot
Choose a sunny location where the plants can receive at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Container plants should be placed in a bright, warm spot.
temperature
Anaheim peppers grow best in warm conditions between 20°C and 30°C. Protect young plants from frost and extreme temperature fluctuations.
watering
Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on weather conditions, and reduce watering slightly as fruits begin to ripen.
how to harvest
Harvest Anaheim peppers about 70–80 days after sowing when they are firm and green, or leave them longer to ripen to red for a sweeter taste. Use them in roasted dishes, salsas, stir-fries, and stuffed pepper recipes for a mild, smoky kick.
