Ageing Well Starts Long Before You Get Old

We are all born with the body we have. But how we nourish it, how we move it and how we care for it is largely our choice.

I have always believed that the habits we build when we are young stay with us for much longer than we realise. What we do in our 20s may seem insignificant at the time, but those choices can influence how our bodies handle life in our 40s and 50s.

And I say this from personal experience.

I used to play a lot of sports when I was in my 20s & had a pretty good physical regimen. Thanks to that, even today in my 40s, I can spend a lot of time at the farm, walk around checking on different varieties, stay active through the day and keep up with the physical demands of running a business. And I don't take that for granted.

But to be honest staying active is only one part of the equation.

What we eat matters a lot as well.

As we get older, taking care of our bodies becomes less about short-term fixes and more about the everyday choices we have made over decades. A clean, varied and nutritious diet is one of those choices.

And this is where I believe home gardening has a much bigger role to play than we give it credit for.

When we grow our own vegetables, herbs and microgreens at home, we have greater control over what goes onto our plates. We know what we put into the soil. We know how our plants are grown. We can choose to grow them without unnecessary chemical sprays.

For me, this is not about becoming completely self-sufficient or growing everything your family eats. That is not practical for most urban households.

It is about starting somewhere, however small.

A few pots of tomatoes and spinach or any seasonal vegetable on your balcony. Some coriander and herbs near the kitchen. A couple of containers with leafy greens. A tray of microgreens that you can harvest in days.

Over time, these small efforts can become a meaningful part of how your family eats.

I genuinely believe that in the coming years, growing some of our own food will become one of the most obvious ways for families to have greater control over their everyday nutrition.

You don't need to know everything before you begin. You just need a few pots, some sunlight, good seeds and the willingness to learn.

And if you don't know where to start, talk to us today.

At AllThatGrows, we have always believed that growing food should be accessible to everyone. We can help you take that first step, whether you have a large terrace, a small balcony or just a few pots by a sunny window.

Because the food you grow today isn't just for today's plate. It is also a small investment in the health of you and your family in the long run.
